There’s something special going on at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and School. When children are inspired, they reach farther. Not just as students, but as people. Our Savior’s Lutheran School is focused on creating a learning environment that balances the heart, mind and spirit… to educate and inspire.

Our Savior's Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten has great things planned for the 2018-2019 school year. We brought Joan Lundbohm on as Preschool Director in March of 2018. Joan has 25 years of Early Childhood experience and is a Director Mentor for the State of California. In that role, Joan mentors preschool directors all over the state. She also hosts Director meetings at Saddleback College and helps to plan the Annual Director Conference for the Mentor Program. Our Savior's is already an excellent school that is ELEA accredited and has been serving the community of San Clemente for 60 years. We plan to move it to an even higher standard of excellence. The school has been admitted into The Department of Education Quality Start Program. This is a two year self-study. The school will be rated and given 1-5 stars at the end of each year. Our Savior's is intentionally focusing on Early Childhood because it is such a crucial time in the life of a young child. The school will be assessing students upon enrollment with the Ages and Stages Questionaire, and then three times during the year with the DROP; Desired Results Developmental Profile. There will also be Parent Teacher conferences twice during the year where parents can meet with their child's teacher one on one. Our Savior's is a developmentally appropriate school and as such we will be rated by the OC Quality Start Program on the environment, which is often referred to as the additional teacher in the room using ECERS -Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale, and also by the CLASS Tool; Classroom Assessment Scoring System. The CLASS tool focuses on the interactions between the teacher and the students.
We will be providing a developmental program deeply rooted in best practices for young children. We have two amazing teachers who have just joined our staff. Mrs. Christina Stretz who has been teaching preschool since 2009. Christina holds a BA from Concordia University in Liberal Studies with a minor in Early Childhood. She is also a Little Peeps Yoga instructor. Mrs. Stretz will be teaching our four year old students. Mrs. Marissa Yarger has been in the field of Early Childhood since 2004. She has been a lead Pre-K teacher since 2014 and joins Our Savior's as the Pre-K teacher. She holds a Bachelor's Degree from Holy Family University, extensive post-graduate study in early childhood education, a CA Master Teacher Permit and a Site Supervisor Permit. Ms. Mia LaLonde is our young threes teacher. She has over ten years of experience in the field and has taught preschool in Hawaii and China. She holds a BA from the University of Hawaii and an AA in Early Childhood from Saddleback College. Mrs. Haydee Ortiz comes to us with a BA from Chile and many years of experience. Mrs. Ortiz is an aide in our four year old classroom and teaches the Early Start Program as well as teaching us all a bit of Spanish. We are so excited about this intentional focus on early childhood at Our Savior's Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten.
